Surgical Services at Koch Veterinary Services

Safe, Compassionate Surgery for Your Pet’s Health

At Koch Veterinary Services, we provide a wide range of surgical procedures—delivered with precision, comfort, and individualized care. Whether your pet needs a routine spay or neuter, removal of a mass, or comprehensive dental surgery, our team combines advanced techniques with gentle handling to support your pet’s well-being before, during, and after surgery. We offer surgical care both in our practice setting and, when appropriate, with thoughtful planning following an in-home consultation.

Spay and Neuter Procedures

Spaying and neutering are among the most important preventive surgeries for dogs and cats. These procedures help reduce the risk of certain cancers, prevent unwanted litters, and often improve long-term behavioral and health outcomes.

  • Performed under safe, monitored anesthesia

  • Tailored pain management and recovery protocols

  • Options for same-day discharge or in-practice monitoring when indicated

  • Pre-surgical wellness checks to optimize safety

Spay and neuter surgery is a proactive step in safeguarding your pet’s future health—done with comfort and recovery as top priorities.

Mass Removal and Soft Tissue Surgery

Whether it’s a benign growth or a mass of unknown origin, timely surgical evaluation and removal can be crucial. Dr. Joanne Koch evaluates each mass with care, discussing concerns, options, and expected outcomes with you before recommending surgery.

Soft tissue surgeries we perform include:

  • Mass and lump removal

  • Abscess or cyst excision

  • Wound repair

  • Exploratory procedures

Each surgery is preceded by a thorough physical exam and, when appropriate, diagnostic testing to ensure the safest approach for your pet.

Dental Procedures and Dental X-Rays

Good oral health is essential to your pet’s overall well-being. Dental disease can lead to pain, infection, and even systemic health effects if left untreated. At Koch Veterinary Services, dental care is performed by trained professionals with a strong commitment to thorough, evidence-based treatment.

Dental Services Include:

  • Dental cleanings and polishing

  • Tooth extractions

  • Treatment of periodontal disease

  • Treatment of oral pain or abscesses

Dental X-Rays With Every Dental Procedure

Because much of dental disease occurs below the gumline and cannot be seen with the naked eye, dental X-rays are performed with every dental procedure. These images allow us to evaluate root health, bone integrity, and hidden abnormalities—ensuring a complete and accurate assessment of your pet’s oral condition.

Dental X-rays:

  • Are taken under anesthesia for comfort and safety

  • Provide detailed views of root and bone structures

  • Help guide extractions and dental treatment plans

  • Improve long-term dental outcomes

A Focus on Safety, Comfort and Peace of Mind

Your pet’s comfort is our priority. All surgical procedures are performed with:

  • Pre-anesthetic health screening

  • Tailored pain management plans

  • Advanced monitoring during anesthesia

  • Attentive post-operative care and recovery instructions

Our team will walk you through every step of the process—from pre-surgical evaluation to post-operative recovery—answering questions and ensuring you feel comfortable with the plan for your pet.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where are surgical procedures performed?

All surgical procedures are performed in our practice, where we have the appropriate equipment, monitoring, and sterile environment to ensure your pet’s safety and comfort. Many surgical cases begin with an in-home or in-office consultation to determine the best plan for your pet.

What types of surgeries do you offer?

We offer a range of routine and soft tissue surgeries, including:

  • Spay and neuter procedures

  • Mass and lump removals

  • Dental procedures, including extractions

  • Other soft tissue surgeries as medically appropriate

Is anesthesia safe for my pet?

Your pet’s safety is our top priority. Before surgery, we perform a physical exam and may recommend pre-anesthetic bloodwork to evaluate organ function. During surgery, pets are closely monitored, and anesthesia protocols are tailored to each individual patient.

Will my pet be in pain after surgery?

We take pain management seriously. Every surgical patient receives a customized pain control plan, which may include medications before, during, and after surgery. Our goal is to keep your pet as comfortable as possible throughout recovery.

Do you perform dental X-rays?

Yes. Dental X-rays are performed with every dental procedure. Many dental problems occur below the gumline and cannot be seen during a visual exam alone. Dental X-rays allow us to fully assess tooth roots and bone health, ensuring complete and effective treatment.

Why are dental X-rays necessary for my pet?

Dental X-rays help identify hidden issues such as root infections, bone loss, fractures, or abscesses. This allows us to make informed decisions about extractions and treatment, improving long-term oral and overall health.

How long will my pet stay at the Practice after surgery?

No. We do not keep patient's overnight. If there is a concern we may recommend transfer to a facility that provides around the clock care.

How should I prepare my pet for surgery?

You will receive detailed pre-surgical instructions prior to your appointment. These typically include fasting guidelines and medication information. Our team is always available to answer questions before your pet’s procedure.

What does post-operative care involve?

After surgery, you’ll receive clear discharge instructions, including:

  • Medication schedules

  • Activity restrictions

  • Feeding guidance

  • Signs to monitor at home

We are available to address concerns during your pet’s recovery.

Do you require a deposit for surgery?

Yes. For surgical procedures with an estimate of $1,000 or more, a deposit is required at the time of scheduling. Deposit details and cancellation policies will be reviewed with you in advance.
